Gene Wolsk
Gene Wolsk was born in Brooklyn and raised in Freeport, Long Island. He graduated from Freeport High School and went on to earn a degree in theatre from Allegheny College. After a year and a half at the Yale School of Drama he went in to the army for two years, serving in Korea during what was euphemistically called a police action. The truce was signed while he was on the way home.
Then began the quest for a job in the New York theatre. After six years of a variety of jobs, theatrical and otherwise, he was hired by the legendary producer, David Merrick. After six years with Merrick he left to produce his first Broadway show, The Lion in Winter. This was followed by some 18 others, including The Sunshine Boys, Ain't Supposed to Die a Natural Death, Mark Twain Tonight, The Investigation, Driving Miss Daisy and revivals of Fiddler on the Roof and Man of La Mancha.
When he met his wife, Laura Stein, in 1983, they began coming to Montauk every summer for at least two weeks. After ten years of annual vacations in Montauk, they decided to buy a house here. At first, it was for three and four day weekends but the weekends grew to five days and by the year 2000, Gene retired fully and they were living full-time in Montauk.
Gene joined the board of CCOM in 2002 and became a Vice-President in 2006.
