Born in the Bronx and lived for 40 years in Port Washington, New York, before moving to Montauk. Ed earned a Graduate Degree (MA) from the New School, NY. He was a stockbroker and is currently an investment counselor.

Ed has been spending summers in Montauk since 1967, and in 1997 he and his wife Joan Powers Porco became year-round residents. Joan is the author of the recently published book, Holding Back the Tide: The Thirty-Five Year Struggle to Save Montauk.

In addition to being a member of the Board of Directors of the Concerned Citizens of Montauk Ed currently holds the position of Treasurer of the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society, where he served as President from 2001 to 2005. Ed is also a member of the Comprehensive Plan Task Force of East Hampton and a former member of the Nature Preserve Committee of the Town of East Hampton.
