Student Environmental Internship Program 2012
Seven East Hampton High School students were selected to participate in CCOM's Internship program. On March 31, they trained with National Park Service Rangers and head into Camp Hero and Theodore Roosevelt parks with Jim Zajac of East Hampton Trails Preservation Society, Frank Quevedo of the SoFo Natural History Museum and CCOM' s Jeremy Samuelson and Ed Proco.

Woodcocks in Love Bird Watch 2012
About 25 appeared out of the early evening gloom - people, not woodcocks, that is. Ed Yohan of Third House Nature Center gave the group background on the small elusive birds, imitating their calls. Although one or two birds did fly into the sky in the clearing near Camp Hero, few were able to spot the male woodcock's unusual mating dance. But, that's birding . . .

Winter Sea Bird Watch at Montauk Point
We launched our series of community nature programs with Third House Nature Center on a very cold, snowy Feb. 11, 2012. Though the weather didn't cooperate, the birds did! We saw gannets, red-throated loons, scoters, common eiders, a single grebe, a few mergansers and a common loon!

New Amsterdam Beach Trail
Everyone's excited about the new Amsterdam Beach trails. The hike is approximately one mile from the parking area to bluffs and then you can walk along the beach.
