Montauk Rocks Earth Day!
Community Clean Up, Crafts for Kids and Rock Walk
Annual Clean Up

Pick up your FREE garbage bags from CCOM at the Montauk Movie Theater and do your part to make your own corner of Montauk beautiful. We’ll have a dumpster in front of the theater until 2 p.m. where you can dispose of the garbage you collect. A big thanks to Mickey’s Carting for donating the dumpster again this year!
Craft Time! Decorate Reusable Grocery Bags with Montauk Playhouse

Join storyteller extraordinaire Sima Freierman for a tale or two and then get creative AND environmental. Kids will decorate reusable grocery bags, celebrating Earth Day and helping to cut down on plastic waste.

Join us for a walk along the ocean near the lighthouse with rock stars Gene Genova and Ron Russ, president and vice-president of Long Island Mineral & Geology Society (LIMAGS). Before heading down to the beach, where we’ll learn about the various types of rocks left behind from the ice age, we’ll view a huge 1900s’ geological map that will give an overview of Long Island.

Seaweed Scavenge
Led by Prof. Larry Liddle of Southampton College and Third House Nature Center
Meet at Lighthouse parking lot.

Join Prof. Larry Liddle, an expert in seaweed biology, as he leads a scavenge for seaweed along Montauk Point. Did you know seaweed is evolutionarily very old and has unique strategies for survival? Prof. Liddle will show you the different species of seaweed found in tidal pools, on shore, and even dried and pressed exotic species. You’ll learn about seaweed’s various uses and biological evolution in this fun expedition.
